Our Church of Christ has a dynamic young Christian that leads our Discipleship Ministry in the person of Brother Marlowe Rogers Sr. He and his lovely wife, Sister Lena have been married 16 years and are the proud parents of four beautiful children, Marcus, Marlowe, India and Marlena. Brother and Sister Rogers were taught the inspired word of God by our own Brother Eric Lorick. After obeying the gospel they were added to the Deer Park Church of Christ December 25, 1994. They left Deer Park in 1995 to help start our own Church of Christ. For our Brother in Christ one of the greatest moments of his life came when the Church recognized his dedication and service to the Lord and he was installed as a Deacon in October 2006. As his family looked on this young man of God was fighting back tears of joy. His one regret, his father was not alive to see the man that he had become through God. Brother Rogers teaches bible classes for adults, young men, is a personal bible study teacher, care group coordinator, has facilitated men’s retreats, workshops and leads the Antioch Care Group. Other works include the Fishers of Men and Ninety minutes and In Evangelism courses. He has participated in E.B.B.I. studies and plans to continue with more courses in the future. One of our Brother’s favorite duties is overseeing the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. The Church has 50 people participating in this endeavor and the feed back from everyone has been very positive and uplifting. Truly our Brother’s dedication is paying huge dividends for our Church. This joyful saint is always striving to be a leader in action and a Christian example for all. Our Brother has chosen David as the man he would have walked with. Even though David was a man of God he had many flaws. But David was a man after God’s own heart. Brother Rogers’ favorite books of the Bible are John and Romans. Favorite scriptures are John 14:15 and Romans 8:35-39. Brother Rogers sees every situation in life, good or bad as an opportunity to glorify God. As Discipleship Ministry Leader he helps new converts as they begin there Christian Walk. He loves building relationships and watching them grow and helping build solid foundations in ones faith. He encourages and edifies all new members with his enthusiastic leadership. New converts are given a Big Brother or Sister, are taught what is expected of them as new babes in Christ and will have help making good life decisions. Our man of God feels his own trials have helped him to become the man he is today and well suited for his ministry with the Church. We are fortunate this dedicated Christian has put all his energy and enthusiastic love of God to work in our congregation. Our Brother’s Christian Light not only shines as a beacon for all to see, his light reaches out and draws people into the light of the Lord. Strong Christian ethics and love of his faith and fellow Christians makes him a rare and valuable asset to the Church. He feels without new converts the Church cannot grow and it is important that no Christian be allowed to fall by the wayside. Brother Rogers sees the Discipleship Ministry as a focal point of growth and cornerstone of our congregation. For one so young he has achieved much in the service of our Lord. In closing our Brother’s favorite words as he greets someone is “spiritual strength and honor.” Wise words we can all learn from.
